A Revamped Kitchen in Seaside Town of Brunswick Heads

Nestled in the coastal beachside town of Northern NSW, just north of Byron is the little seaside village of Brunswick Heads. The owners wanted a kitchen where they could display their eclectic treasures that they had accumulated along their travels.

The existing kitchen was the original and the owners bought the house with renovation in mind and big plans of turning this home into a family abode, that they could watch their children grow up in.

Inside every aspect of the existing home, were timber clad walls and ceilings along with timber floors. The kitchen was a run-down room, that had no storage space and was divided with a centre dividing wall next to the breakfast bar.

The room lent itself to be opened and brightened and the clients still wanted to have a warmth that would incorporate the look of natural timber.

Materials were selected to be usable and also Eco-Friendly. The cabinetry chosen is a Veneer and is FSC certified (Forest Stewardship Council) and the oven is the latest Smeg Victoria Dual Fuel oven. Smeg headquarters has been named one of the most innovative sites in Italy, “The company’s commitment to the environment consists of a particular focus on the ecological aspects of designing and manufacturing domestic appliances. The idea is to ensure maximum performance while keeping energy consumption to a minimum.”

The metal black framed island support frame was custom-designed and made so there was easy access to pots and pans that are used often. They wanted the kitchen to showcase their lifestyle, which involved family time and cooking together.

Black framed louvered windows replaced the old tired windows and opened the space to more light and sea breezes.

A large double white ceramic butler sink perfectly contrasted the strong timber veneer grains and black detailing in the kitchen.
